Connecting cash registers to the government IT systems (GGPS) and e-invoicing

A receipt from a cash register

During 2020 cash registers will be connected to the GGPS (ΓΓΠΣ, General Secretariat for Information Systems, which runs the Greek tax systems), so that every cash register sends data for each receipt issued to be recorded automatically and in real time. To be ready for the coming changes, make sure you have deregistered your old cash registers in TAXIS, the tax authority’s system, to avoid a possible fine. Check whether your cash register meets the new specifications, whether it has a single paper roll and was bought after 2014, whether it is approaching 1,800 Z reports, and whether it is close to a router.

From 1 January 2020 electronic bookkeeping and e-invoicing also begin, first for businesses that deal with the public sector and then gradually for all types of businesses and self-employed professionals. Once complete, the automation is expected to help fight tax evasion and to reduce businesses’ running and administrative costs.
